Global Tech Trends event

Global Tech Trends event
GABA, Silicon French and Bay Brazil organization – tonight in Palo Alto.

There was nobody else from Russia, at least i did not find anybody, and the only person I thought was Russian happened to be entrepreneur from Brazil with some fun ideas. Had a chance to talk to a few other great people including VP from Ebay. I learned a few interesting facts about using mobile phones in Africa in places where the electricity is scarce, there was many fun facts about venture capital industry – 1/3 is still in Silicon Valley, software and biotech is where most money goes still, the return on investment is negative for the industry as a whole, colleges are not investing as much, there are around 3,000 funds and this number will be shrinking, but still overall there are a lot of individual amazing success stories and newcomers, great funds and companies in the valley, new emerging industries. There were a few interesting questions, i have asked a question about technology development/innovation growth rate and governments (going forward not fast enough, standing still or even going backwards). Wonderful event overall with good energy, useful information and funny jokes.
I will update this post later.

2012 Global Projections
As we approach the end of 2011, economists around the world are on the alert for an imminent double-dip recession particularly in the U.S., the Eurozone countries and the UK.
Still, venture capital investment in the U.S. in Q2 increased 19% compared to the first quarter of 2011, representing the highest total increase in a single quarter since the second quarter of 2008, according to the National Venture Capital Association.
Although dollars are still pouring into U.S. firms, consumer confidence plunged to the lowest level in more than two years as unemployment hits over 9% of Americans. As a result, entrepreneurs are facing faltering profits, increasing uncertainty about the short-term evolution of their business environment and a new set of challenges to navigate the ongoing crisis and to stay afloat.
